Horse Rescue, Disability Vocational Training, Community Farm and Agriculture Resource, and Equine Assisted Trauma and Rehabilitative Therapy Facility
About the Farm
Davis Dewberry Farm began as a quiet horse retreat built by the late Kenneth E. Dewberry, a proud disabled veteran whose love for horses gave him peace and purpose. Caring for them was his therapy; a refuge from the noise of the world. When Kenneth passed away, his daughters and family made a promise to carry his legacy forward. They filled his land with animals and gardens, believing they were simply honoring his memory; but what grew there became something extraordinary.
As the land came alive again, so did a calling. Horses rescued from neglect began to heal, and the people caring for them began to heal, too. For Kenyona, Kenneth’s daughter, the connection was deeply personal. Her non-verbal son with autism found calm among the horses, and her adult daughter’s passion for animal rescue deepened the family’s mission. Drawing from their collective backgrounds in mental health, trauma recovery, and addiction therapy, they discovered what Kenneth had always known: horses have a powerful ability to restore trust, peace, and purpose in the human heart.
Today, Davis Dewberry Farm stands as both a rescue sanctuary and a community wellness hub. The farm empowers disabled and neurodiverse adults through vocational training in sustainable agriculture and animal care, skills that help them gain independence, employment, and pride. The fruits of their labor also support low-income and food-deprived families, turning empowerment into nourishment for the entire community.
Looking to the future, the Dewberry family visions expanding the farm to include a residential program for adults with disabilities; a place where participants can live, work, and thrive in a safe, supportive, and purpose-driven environment. This next chapter will offer not only training and employment, but also a true sense of belonging; a community built on compassion, inclusion, and shared growth.
At Davis Dewberry Farm, we carry forward a legacy of love, healing, and second chances; for horses, for people, and for the land they share.
Our Mission and Vision Statements
Our mission is to rescue and repurpose horses, heal and empower individuals with disabilities and veterans through equine-assisted and agricultural therapy, and create inclusive pathways to meaningful work, independence, and sustainable living. We strengthen our community by providing affordable, ethically grown food and goods through compassionate farming and vocational education.
Our vision is to create a compassionate, sustainable community where rescued horses are given new purpose, individuals with disabilities and veterans find healing and empowerment, and every person has access to meaningful pathways toward independence and livelihood. We envision Davis Dewberry Farm as a sanctuary that transforms lives through equine-assisted therapy, inclusive agricultural and vocational training, and the ethical production of affordable, homegrown food and goods that nourish the families and neighborhoods we serve.
What We Do
At Davis Dewberry Farm, we combine rescue, rehabilitation, and renewal, for both horses and people. Our work bridges compassion, sustainability, and empowerment, transforming lives through connection with animals and the land.
1. Horse Rescue & Sanctuary
We rescue horses from kill pens, neglect, and abandonment, offering them medical care, nourishment, and the chance to heal emotionally and physically. Some become therapy partners or are rehomed as trail mates while others simply live out their days in peace; every one of them finds safety and love here.
2. Equine-Assisted Therapy & Healing Programs
Through structured therapy and relationship-based learning, we connect veterans, children with autism, and individuals overcoming trauma with rescued horses to promote emotional regulation, confidence, and healing. These quiet, honest moments of connection change lives — for both horse and human.
3. Vocational Training & Inclusive Agriculture
We empower disabled and neurodiverse adults to learn agriculture, farm management, and sustainable food production. These programs open doors to viable employment, independence, and a renewed sense of purpose.
4. Community Farming & Food Access
Our farm-grown produce helps low-income and food-deprived families access healthy, locally grown food. Through the hands of our participants, we are feeding both bodies and spirits, ensuring that everyone, regardless of circumstance, has a seat at the table.
5. Education, Volunteering & Outreach
From mentoring youth to hosting workshops and community events, we cultivate compassion and environmental awareness in everyone who visits the farm. Volunteers, families, and students all become part of a larger story of care, connection, and growth.
At Davis Dewberry Farm, every life we touch, human or animal, becomes part of a cycle of healing, hope, and renewal.
