Meet Our Residents
Every soul at Davis Dewberry Farm has a story. Some came here frightened and forgotten; others came searching for peace. Together, they remind us that healing can take many forms, and that love, once given, multiplies.
Our residents include rescued horses, gentle livestock, and the people who care for them. Each day, they teach us lessons about trust, patience, and second chances. Get to know the remarkable animals and individuals who make our farm a sanctuary of hope.
THEODORE AND HAMILTON
After downsizing and sending our Kune Kune pigs off to bigger pastures, we kept two of the offsprings that were rejected from their mother. They enjoy belly rubs, excursions to our neighbor's wooded path, and lots of special treats.
OUTLAW
Outlaw, our Morgan gelding, 18 years old with a lot of life left in him. Unfortunately he is a prime example of how people determine an animal is of no use to them and send them off to a kill pen auction to either be bailed or sent to Mexico on a meat truck. It has taken him some time to get use to all the attention and affection after being a workhorse for his Amish family; but he enjoys lazy days and carrots.
BLUEJEANS
Blue came to us underweight and severely neglected. He was anxious about every noise and leary of all humans. He is an Arabian gelding that I am sure was someone's prize possession. He is a prime example of a horse being sold again and again until he ended up in the wrong hands. Eventually he was starved, full of worms, and neglected them dumped at a kill auction to either be bailed or horse meat.
IVY, ELIZABETH, AND MARY
The ladies were given to us in exchange for our small herd of cows. They are just mere babies and enjoy lots of hugs, treats, and playtime in the pastures. We have to take special care to ensure they are safe from predators since they are so young and vulnerable.
